Cop jailed on sex charge

A police Constable has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after he was convicted of sexually assaulting a 9-year old girl.

Constable Kevin Franklyn was convicted on three counts of indecent assault before the Corporate Area Criminal Court.

He was charged in September 2008 following an investigation by the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse into allegations that he assaulted the minor between July and August of 2007.

The Constable who was attached to the Greater Portmore Police Station in St. Catherine was charged following a ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

He strongly denied the allegations at his trial.
